14 Nov 2024
On Thursday, November 14, our K-6 assembly was transformed into a hip hop concert by our very special guest DOBBY! As part of the Resilience Project grant through Cumberland Council, amazing and inspiring Aria Award nominated Hip Hop performing artist DOBBY visited our school, worked with students and performed for us all.
DOBBY is a talented rapper, drummer, composer and producer and proudly identifying as a Filipino and Murrawarri musician. His roots run deep in the Aboriginal lands from Brewarrina and Weilmoringle in New South Wales.
DOBBY led a series of resilience building workshops with our Culture Club students, focussing on the aspects of using music as cultural and identity storytelling. He also took a small group of students to teach them more about the art of writing rap songs with positive and purposeful messaging, in the H Pop Studio with Ms Maxine and Mr Campbell.
His performance at our assembly had everybody on their feet and cheering! Well done to our students who participated in the rap writing workshop and joined DOBBY on stage. We are very grateful to DOBBY for providing this unforgettable experience for our students, and to Ms Maxine for organising this special event.
