Year 3 PBL

students fundraising

Throughout this year, our year 3 students have been working to answer the question 'How can we, as Australians, support our disaster affected communities?'. They researched the causes, effects and responses to various natural disasters that have occurred in Australia's history, while improving their knowledge of Australia's history and geography and skills of inquiry.

Hilltop Road's year 3 students connected with the students of Broulee Public School, in an area of New South Wales that was devastated by the 2019-2020 fire season. Our students heard first hand accounts from students who were forced to evacuate, separated from their families and even lost their homes. Our students were inspired to do all they can to show and share their support for the Broulee students, and solved their PBL problem through fundraising, acts of kindness, promoting tourism and raising awareness.

On Wednesday, September 23, year 3 students hosted the 'Be Bright For Broulee' fundraising mufti day. As well as collecting doantions for the mufti day, groups of students also raised fund by selling drinks, ice blocks, book marks, plants and guesses for the chance to win a lolly jar. We were very proud of their efforts, through which they raised close to $2000. We thank our students and teachers for their hard work, and all the students and community members who supported their cause and made their project such a success.

Each group completed a website documenting their work and the solutions they produced in response to their driving question. Please click the link below to see the results of their work:
