HRPS performs for the Western Sydney Wanderers

Students with the wanderers mascots.

On Friday, March 19, Hilltop Road Public School was given the amazing opportunity to perform at Bankwest Stadium during the half time of the A League soccer. The Western Sydney Wanderers were playing against Perth Glory in the grandeur of Sydney's newest stadium. Our school was there to entertain the crowd and share the spirit of Harmony Day.

In preparation for the night, selected Year 1 students recorded raps they had written about their culture, inspired by the Mem Fox book 'I'm Australian Too'. Mrs Turrini and the H-Pop Studio team put together the track 'I'm Australian Too', with original music recorded in our studio. An assortment of students from our Cheerleading, Hip Hop and Jazz dance groups, together with our year 1 rappers, prepared a dance performance to entertain the crowd.

Upon arrival at the stadium, our students were also given the honour of being flag bearers for a special acknowledgement of Harmony Day before kick-off. Students carried flags from all around the world in a procession onto the soccer pitch, while a speech was given about the significance of Harmony Day and celebrating our diversity.

We took our seats and enjoyed the action of the first half of the game, as we anticipated our performance. At half time, it was show time. Our performers dazzled the crowd and really brought the essence of Harmony Day to Bankwest Stadium with their rapping and dancing. It was a very proud moment for everyone involved.

After our performance we enjoyed cheering on the Wanderers for the second half of the match, which they won 3-0. A big thank you to all of the teachers who prepared the performance, accompanied the students on the night and made this evening possible. Thank you also to the parents for their support, and of course to our students for their amazing efforts!
